Leaked Photos of the Nokia N96 Smart Phone

January 5, 2008

Nokia N96?

The highly-anticipated successor to the Nokia N95 smart phone may have been
spotted in some leaked photos posted at Mobile-Review’s forum. This new smart phone is called the Nokia N96, and it looks like it will be available sometime in early 2008.

These leaked photos show a beautiful cellphone that is very reminiscent of its predecessor, the N95. It seems to have the same 2-way sliding mechanism that the N95 has, which opens one way to reveal music player controls and the other way to access the keypad. The photos of the N96 show a sleeker and smoother looking cellphone than the N95.

The back of the Nokia N96 sports a 5 megapixel camera complete with a high-quality Carl Zeiss lens and what seems to be a 2 LED flash system, which would surely produce solid photos in dim-lighting. The Nokia N95 only has a single flash system as you can see from the photo.

Nokia N95/N96 comparison

Electronista reports that the leaked photos of the Nokia N96 seem to show that this device runs an updated version of the Symbian Series 60 OS, which they say is used by Nokia’s higher-end models for multitasking.

There is no word on when the Nokia N96 is expected to be released, but I would imagine that it will be sometime early next year. We’ll keep an eye out for the N96 at CES in January and Mobile World Congress in February – hopefully we’ll know more by then. These leaked photos are just enough to wet your lips!
